I am writing to encourage Anacortes voters to vote YES on the upcoming school levy. Our schools are central to the community, and this levy simply maintains the essential programs, staffing, and safety measures our students rely on every day.

State funding covers only the minimum requirements of “basic education,” and even that falls short of what it takes to run strong schools. Local levies fill the gap so students can benefit from reasonable class sizes, extracurricular activities, transportation, custodial services, technology, and safe, well-maintained buildings. These are not extras – they are the foundation of a high-quality education.

As a community, we have a long history of supporting our schools because we understand that the greatest investment we can make is in our students. When they have the tools and opportunities to succeed, the entire community benefits. Strong schools make strong communities, enhancing property values, attracting families, and preparing the next generation of workers and leaders.

The district is asking voters to renew its Educational Programs and Operations Levy and its Capital Maintenance, Safety and Technology Levy. These measures continue the support that has helped our students thrive. Please join me in voting YES on both levies.

Sincerely,

Maggie Thompson
