WA State Does Not Fully Fund Education

While state and federal sources fund approximately 82% of district, the remaining 18% shortfall must be filled by replacement Anacortes school levies to maintain strong, effective schools.

Investing in Education Benefits Our Entire Community

YES vote supports our students with the education, activities and facilities they need to thrive. By investing in them today, we’re investing in the future of our community and workforce.

2026 Anacortes School Levies

Anacortes voters are being asked to renew—not create—two essential local levies that fund quality education and safe schools. A strong school system is a foundation of a strong and thriving community.

Government funding

State and federal funding provides roughly 82% of the district’s funding. Washington state is only required to fund districts to a level that barely meets our minimum requirements to operate.

The state funds only basic education requirements. It does not fully cover smaller class sizes, extracurricular activities, early learning, transportation, health services, preventive building maintenance, technology and safety improvements, substitute staffing, nor utilities.

Our children deserve more than the bare minimum

We believe Anacortes is not a “just good enough” kind of community that wants only the minimum requirement for our children.

Making up the difference with Anacortes School Levies

Just as all citizens have been affected by cost of living due to inflation, so has the Anacortes School District. The cost of education has increased substantially since 2022. For decades, Anacortes voters have chosen to fill this 18% state and federal funding shortfall by voting for levy renewals.

These replacement levies ensure continued funding for high-quality curriculum, athletics, arts, clubs, early learning services, and critical facility maintenance.

For our schools to continue playing a vital role in producing high-caliber young adults and citizens, we need to ensure they are provided with ample opportunities to learn, grow, and thrive. That cannot happen without continued financial support from our great community!
